Many parents often suspect that their child has a learning disability. But they don't always take action. Some feel that the child will "grow out" of their learning difficulties. Many feel that being labeled with a learning disability would have a negative effect on their child's self esteem and cause them problems in school.

Early identification of learning difficulties, however, can mean the difference between success and failure. In studies, 90% of children who received help in the first grade were able to learn to read on grade level. However, 75% of children who did not receive help until the fourth grade, experienced reading problems throughout their school careers.

If you suspect that your child might have a learning disability, talk to your child's teacher or the school's counselor about having your child formally evaluated.
