Help Your Child Become A More Successful Learner

Here are some simple ideas that you can do at home to
help your child become a more successful learner.
Build Self Esteem
- Be supportive, encouraging and positive with your
children. Children who have support, who are encouraged
and who understand the importance of education are more
likely to succeed at school.
- Build your children's self-esteem by letting them know
that they are capable worthy human beings and that you
know they will be successful students.
- Give your children positive feedback in all areas
of their lives. Children learn better if they know what they are doing right.
- Use encouragement and positive feedback frequently and criticize seldomly.
- Support children in their school and extracurricular
activities such as homework, special projects, sports, clubs and hobbies.
- Let children know that you hold them accountable
for their behavior and their decisions.
- Let children know the consequences their actions
will result in, both positive and negative.
- Give your children responsibilities and provide positive
feedback about their performance.
- Encouragement and recognition reinforce learning
and make children more successful at it.
- Praise children when they succeed and help them
when they are having problems. Describe what you are
proud of and ask them what they are proud of.
